Semi-finished, Crust or Finished leather?
We got you!
Norskin is a sustainable and traceable alternative to traditional leather, made by procuring, sorting, and pretreating the highest quality fish skin from the ice-cold seas of Northern Norway. We provide tanneries with a formable, high-quality product delivered to their specifications.
Semi-finished
By offering pickled skins, we give tanneries the flexibility to apply their own tanning methods to achieve the desired result. The process enhances the skins' receptiveness to tanning: pickling increases acidity, enabling tanning, while added salts prevent fibre swelling.
Crust
We offer crust leather directly to tanneries and fashion houses with in-house tanneries. Crust leather is a term applied to leather, which is dried after tanning but has not yet been dyed. This option allows customers to add their own finish.
Finished leather
In order to deliver ready to use - sourced and produced locally we offer a superior material. We carry a selection of colors in our swatchbook, also including an undyed material.
Why Choose Norskin?
-
The fish farmed in cold, pure artic water, which gives superior strength and quality to the material.
Unlike the usual leather sourced from sheep or cowhide, the fibers of Norskin crosses.
This gives our material exceptional strength; thanks to its unique cross-fiber structure it is up to nine times stronger than traditional leather of the same thickness. Its durability rivals’ traditional leather, yet it offers a luxurious suede texture that is incredibly soft with a distinctive, eye-catching pattern. -
Not only is it extremely durable and formable!
Our dedication to sustainability and circular economy shows by offering a sustainable and traceable alternative, with a carbon footprint much smaller than traditional leather.
We aim to reduce the CO2-footprint of the leather industry, by offering an alternative material. Born and raised in Northern Norway, respect for nature is an integral part of our DNA.
The process is 100% metal free with no use of heavy metals such as chromium.
Norskin believes in utilizing every part in what we harvest from the sea, leaving nothing to waste. -
Working exclusively with certified farmers located in Northern Norway, our material is 100% traceable through its complete lifecycle.
This allows us to visualize the journey of the product, tell the story behind and document its origin.
Norskin’s vision is to be one of the most traceable and high-quality material in the world. -
We also have access to broodstock salmon who is much larger and denser than superior salmon, closer to the scale of traditional leather.
The broodstock also has eccentric pigmentation of the skin. The size of this fish vary - larger areas can be covered, which means less stitching.
Norskin is currently the only company utilizing broodstock for the skin.
