Our process is designed to ensure the highest quality, utilizing as much of the raw material as possible.

Sourcing raw materials

Leather quality starts with the raw material. That's why our local suppliers carefully sort the raw material before sending us only the best, and we conduct our own quality control to ensure it meets our high standards.

Cleaning and preparing

The process begins with fleshing, where muscle and fat are carefully removed. The skins are sorted, and any with imperfections are set aside for other uses.
In this step the material is cleaned with a degreasing agent to ensure purity. This careful cleaning guarantees the raw material is of superior quality, ready for production.

The Next step in production…

The material is treated to remove any remaining impurities and adjust its properties, preparing it for a specific tanning process.

The semi-finished material is carefully inspected to ensure it meets our standards and customer expectations. It is then either sent for further processing to the crust stage or packed directly as semi-finished for shipment.

Why Choose Norskin?

  • The fish farmed in cold, pure artic water, which gives superior strength and quality to the material.

Unlike the usual leather sourced from sheep or cowhide, the fibers of Norskin crosses.

This gives our material exceptional strength; thanks to its unique cross-fiber structure it is up to nine times stronger than traditional leather of the same thickness. Its durability rivals’ traditional leather, yet it offers a luxurious suede texture that is incredibly soft with a distinctive, eye-catching pattern.

  • Not only is it extremely durable and formable!

Our dedication to sustainability and circular economy shows by offering a sustainable and traceable alternative, with a carbon footprint much smaller than traditional leather.

We aim to reduce the CO2-footprint of the leather industry, by offering an alternative material. Born and raised in Northern Norway, respect for nature is an integral part of our DNA.

The process is 100% metal free with no use of heavy metals such as chromium.

Norskin believes in utilizing every part in what we harvest from the sea, leaving nothing to waste.

  • Working exclusively with certified farmers located in Northern Norway, our material is 100% traceable through its complete lifecycle.

This allows us to visualize the journey of the product, tell the story behind and document its origin.
Norskin’s vision is to be one of the most traceable and high-quality material in the world.

  • We also have access to broodstock salmon who is much larger and denser than superior salmon, closer to the scale of traditional leather.

The broodstock also has eccentric pigmentation of the skin. The size of this fish vary - larger areas can be covered, which means less stitching.

Norskin is currently the only company utilizing broodstock for the skin.
